Dark Stores

How incredibly haunting are these superb photos from TIME? These closed stores- the victims of a financial crisis- have such a ghostly presence, being devoid of human inhabitation yet filled with light. They stand as hollow shells of their former selves. The photos also remind me of that hour of the night when the streets are emptied; everyone has gone to bed, and an unnatural silence and stillness descends. Isn't that how we tend to feel these days- that our heyday is over?
