Aski Kataski

Photos from The Fashion Spot

The primitive quality of these garments by Japanese label Aski Kataski fascinates me. If you're wondering about the name, it's derived from the ancient Greek incantation 'Aski-kataski-haix-tetrax-damnameneus-aision', which means 'darkness, light, earth, sun, and truth'. I think it suits the label's aesthetic perfectly. Jagged edges, frayed hems, and seemingly raw fabrics belie the exquisite cuts, craftsmanship and details of each piece. The Japanese have such an interesting way of looking at clothes. I'm always anxious to see what Rei Kawakubo, Yohji Yamamoto, Junya Watanabe, Tao Kurihara and Jun Takahashi might come up with for their next collections.
